AERO’s submission supports the Productivity Commission’s focus on the role of education in building a skilled and adaptable workforce, and on the importance of all students developing the foundational knowledge needed to participate in a growing Australian economy.

About the submission

This Productivity Commission inquiry for the Australian Government aimed to identify priority reforms and develop actionable recommendations for building a skilled and adaptable workforce.

The Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO) welcomes the Productivity Commission’s focus on the role of education in building a skilled and adaptable workforce, and on the importance of all students developing the foundational knowledge needed to participate in a growing Australian economy.

The national education architecture will play a critical role in supporting the delivery of many initiatives identified by this inquiry. AERO stands ready to support this important work in 2 key areas:

  • improving student outcomes by supporting all teachers and schools in accessing high-quality resources that support evidence-based teaching practices
  • enhancing learning outcomes for all students by aligning educational technology, including generative artificial intelligence tools, with evidence-based teaching practices.

AERO’s submission provides a brief summary of some of the evidence underpinning these focus areas, as well as some of the work we are already doing to support them.
