This research summary outlines key findings about evidence-based teaching practices that support Autistic students and students with ADHD with learning at school.

Autistic students and students with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) make up a significant and growing number of students in Australian schools. This means it’s important for school leaders and teachers to understand the teaching practices that best support them.

This research summary is based on AERO’s discussion paper, Teaching Practices to Support Autistic Students and Students with ADHD. Our discussion paper synthesises research from the past decade (2014 to 2025) on evidence-based teaching practices that support Autistic students and students with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) with learning in school settings. This research summary outlines key findings from the discussion paper, including the practices current evidence supports, where the evidence is still developing and resources with more advice on these practices.
