Professional learning can play an important role in supporting teachers and educators to develop the skills and knowledge needed to improve outcomes for children. But we’re yet to fully understand the critical features that make professional learning effective.  

Using evidence-based practices in the classroom is easier said than done. There is broad consensus in the research community that certain practices such as formative assessment and explicit instruction improve student outcomes. But these practices are often complex and hard to implement, involving many different elements.
